  Special thanks to those vols who really went above and beyond the call of duty and helped take down the course!   Jon B came back on Sunday and took down the entire main O course.   Jon H battled the bugs and took down the entire paddle course after mannning it all day.   Teri B collected the aerial O course during one of her few lulls running race headquarters.   You guys saved a very tired race director several hours of additional work and he definitely appreciates it!!

• MASH 9 hour and 6 hour races  
  The racers and volunteers have spoken, and we've listened!
  
  All but one of the 6 hour teams replied and all of those were okay with going to an 8 hour race.   However, half maintain a preference for keeping their race at 6 hours, so we're going to leave that race alone and keep it at 6 hours.  
  
  All but one of the 12 hour teams replied and all of those were okay with going to an 8 hour race.   However, a few did prefer a longer race, and a few really wanted some single-track riding.   With all factors in mind, it appears the best option for the most people (racers, volunteers, suppliers, and director) will be to change the 12 hour race to a 9 hour race with single-track (weather permitting).
  
  Start/Finish times for both races have been adjusted and start/finish location has been revealed.  (info)
  
  We've never had to adjust a race like this and it definitely is not an easy or desireable process.   Having to change from the original race date likely affected the turn-out somewhat, so we're hoping that won't have to happen again in the future.

• MASH Update  
  Registration is now closed.
  
  No additional teams registered for the 12 hour race, so our count remains at five for that race.   We did have additional teams register for the 6 hour race though.    Three of the four 12 hour teams who have replied are fine (a couple relieved!) with going to an 8 hour race.   All of the 6 hour teams who have replied so far are fine with bumping-up to an 8 hour race (but a few do prefer keeping it at 6 hour).   However, I'm guessing a few teams provided work emails and might not be finding out about the 8 hour consideration until today.   For that reason, I'd like to give them until this evening to reply, then make a call at that time.  
  
  One other option we're considering is to keep the 6 hour as is, but to have the 12 hour race reduced to 8 hours and include some single-track riding.   If you're a 6 hour team interested in bumping-up to an 8 hour race with single-track, please let us know.  
  
  As of now though, the leading vote getter is an 8 hour race with NO single track.   Since the biking for the current 6 hour race is heavier than usual (30-35 miles), I'm actually hoping people opt for 8 hours so they can have more time with paddling and orienteering.

• MASH 8 hour ??????????????  
  Due to relatively low turnout for the 12 hour race at this point, we are exploring the possibility of combining the 12 and 6 hour races into an 8 hour race (or possibly just having the 6 hour race).   We are contacting captains of teams already registered for both races to get their feelings on these options.   If an 8 hour race is something you'd be interested in, please contact Mike to discuss potential registration options.   Last minute registrations could have an impact, so we will wait until Monday morning to make a final decision.

  Lodging info has also been added.   We've provided links for hotels in Mt Horeb/Verona and nearby campgrounds, but you'd also be within reasonable distance of the start/finish if you live on the west side of Madison.

  Spoke too soon and got a little too excited about about keeping the race close to its normal date.   It now appears the better date for most partners and volunteers will indeed be the 21st as suggested below.   We'll still be within an hour of Madison, WI.   If you're not already training, get started now because this course will challenge you in much the same way that the 2010 race did!   (info)

• MASH date likely to change!
  Due to a recent development at work for our race director, and the news that the Pirates are not holding "Race for the Booty" in 2011, we have decided it's probably best to push MASH a little further out on the calendar.   At this time we are targeting either May 21 or possibly even a June date.   But before we lock into a new date, we hope to hear from our friends at Fat Otter to ensure whatever new date we might select does not conflict with any events they are planning.

• Let the 2011 adventure racing season begin!
  Mule "hibernation" has ended!   Mother Nature has put the kibosh on the ski season, but not before several Mules were able to partake in North America's largest and most prestigious ski race - the American Birkebeiner.   Congrats to Michele E, John E, Pam S, Tom W, Chuck C, Teri B, and Mike R for surviving the 2nd coldest Birkie on record!!
  
  Now it's time to start thinking summer.   Plenty of developements in the regional adventure racing scene and we'll be working on helping you get up to speed with things this weekend.   Stay tuned!

• Great News!!!    We have once again received a very generous contribution from Jim Berbee and Karen Walsh that will go a long way in helping us achieve our goals!   In addition to Jim and Karen, Tony Gonzales (Supermercado Gonzales and La Concha Bakery), and Doug Pastrich (1st Basis Consulting) have also joined the effort with very generous contributions!!!   As a direct result of their unsolicited kindness we will be able to help the organization we have chosen to support through MAFF, help provide even nicer raffle items for our racers and volunteers, and help promote adventure racing in general.

• We're back!!
  Still not sure exactly what happened to the site, but we're working with techies and trying to ensure it doesn't happen again anytime soon.

• Now THAT was some MASH'ing!   Taking down the course Sunday was a stark reminder of the challenge racers faced the day before - and Sunday didn't have nearly the winds of Saturday or as much of the standing/running water left from Friday's storms!   Look for more detailed MASH (and Mini) results along with a recap and more photos within a week.   In the meantime, check Facebook to see which teams had the best day along with the first round of photos!
